Missing Frederick woman located unharmed

A Frederick woman declared missing last week has contacted her family and is unharmed, bringing an intense investigation into her disappearance by police and community members to an end.

Teresa Lentz had gone to Virginia "willingly," and has been reunited with her family, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Lentz, 49, was first declared missing on June 19, sparking "an intensive seven day around the clock investigation" into her whereabouts, the sheriff's office said.

She was reunited with her family on Tuesday night. Her choice to leave Maryland was not explained.

Lentz's family issued a statement saying they are "overjoyed that she is safe and back with us" and thanking the community and local law enforcement agencies for their support.

"At this time, we would like everyone to know that we are in a family crisis situation, and that we just need privacy," the statement said.
