The 19-year-old granddaughter of a 67-year-old woman who was stabbed to death in her front yard in Jefferson Monday afternoon has been charged with her killing, State Police said Wednesday.
Hestina Harris, 19, faces murder charges in the death of Lillie Morris, 67, police said. Police initially reported Morris was 77.
Harris, who lived with Morris at the home in the 5400 block of Burkittsville Road, was arrested Wednesday at a family member's residence and taken to Frederick County Detention Center, police said.
No attorney was listed for Harris in online court records. Police did not release a motive or say how investigators linked Harris to her grandmother's killing.
Morris was found badly injured in the front yard of the home at about 3 p.m. and died while being taken to a hospital by medics after a motorist reported seeing her hurt, police said.
Anyone with further information is asked to call Maryland State Police at 301-600-4150.
