Fire damages Fort Meade pet center in Maryland

FORT MEADE, Md. — A fire has damaged part of a pet care center at Fort Meade in Maryland.

Officials said in a statement Friday that the blaze broke out Thursday evening at the Pet Care Center complex, damaging the roof of one of two buildings there.

Firefighters from Fort Meade and Anne Arundel County Fire units put out the blaze and emergency responders helped secure more than 30 dogs and cats who were boarded at the facility.

Officials say one cat was sent to emergency veterinary services for observation, but the rest of the animals were unharmed. No humans were injured.

The center offers doggie day care as well as dog and cat boarding services, but day care services are being suspended until further notice.
