Flags lowered in memory of soldier killed in Afghanistan

Gov. Martin O'Malley has ordered that the U.S. and Maryland flags be flown at half-staff in memory of a soldier killed in Afghanistan.

O'Malley ordered the flags be lowered on Thursday from sunrise to sunset in memory of 41-year-old U.S. Army Lt. Col. David E. Cabrera, who was living in Olney.

Cabrera died on Oct. 29 in Kabul when the vehicle he was in was attacked.

He had been assigned to the Uniformed Services University of Health Services in Bethesda.
