PITTSBURGH — A Maryland man charged with scamming a South Korean steel company out of $375,000 by claiming he could help them book a concert by musician Pharrell Williams is due in a federal courtroom in Pittsburgh.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sigismond Segbefia, of Silver Spring, faces fraud and identity theft charges in the concert scam, and for allegedly using a western Pennsylvania postal worker's identity to bilk more than $445,000 from women he met online.
Segbefia, a native of Ghana who is in the U.S. legally, was arrested last month by federal customs officials at Kennedy Airport in New York.
The FBI says Segbefia used a company he incorporated in Maryland called Eastern Stars LLC to make his various claims seem legitimate.
A defense attorney didn't return a request for comment in advance of Segbefia's arraignment Thursday.
