An Essex man has been charged with trying to solicit a minor for sex after he set up a meeting with a person who turned out to be an undercover detective, Baltimore County police said Thursday.
Police say Marc Edward Butt, 40, started communicating online in February with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl. They allege he asked what she liked to do sexually and whether they could meet at her house or a motel.
Butt arranged to meet her Wednesday at a public place, where he was arrested, police said, adding that they found two condoms in his pocket.
Butt is charged with sexual solicitation of a minor, attempted second-degree rape, and attempted third-degree sex offense. He was released from jail on $150,000 bail Thursday. Butts could not be reached Thursday evening, and no attorney is listed for him in online court records.
Detectives asked anyone with information on Butt to contact police at 410-307-2020.
