April 24, 1758: The 30 seconds of shaking in Annapolis were preceded by subterranean noises. Also felt inPennsylvania.

1811-1812: Series of quakes centered in New Madrid, Mo., were felt in Maryland and much of the East.
Aug. 31, 1886: The great quake in Charleston, S.C., was felt in West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
May 31, 1897: A quake centered in southwestern Virginia, was felt in Baltimore, Southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore.
Nov. 1, 1935: A 6.2-quake in northeastern Ontario was felt from Cumberland to Baltimore andChestertown.
Sept. 4, 1944: A quake in the St. Lawrence River Valley was felt in Baltimore andWestminster.

1993: A flurry of nearly two dozen small tremors shook Howard County, with no damage reported.
Feb. 23, 2005: A series of shakes measured between 2.0 and less, five and a half miles beneath the epicenter inDundalk.
Oct. 8, 2007: A magnitude 1.0 tremor rattled neighborhoods just west of Arbutus at 8:30 a.m.
July 16, 2010: A 3.6-magnitude tremor just after 5 a.m. was centered in Germantown,Montgomery County. It was felt as far away as southern New Jersey.
