Md. official to discuss Deep Creek Lake water levels

The head of Maryland's Department of Natural Resources is heading to Western Maryland to appear at a public meeting on water levels in Deep Creek Lake.

DNR Secretary John Griffin is scheduled to appear Tuesday afternoon at the meeting being held by the Garrett County Commission. The Cumberland Times-News reported that there have been concerns over the past two years about the effect of low water levels on the lake.

Lakeside property owners have complained that shallow water has shortened the boating season. Whitewater paddlers and anglers, meanwhile, have opposed changes that will affect flows into the Youghiogheny River, which is fed by the man-made lake created by damming the river. The meeting is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Hall in Oakland.
