CSX derailment limits Brunswick Line MARC to three trains Monday evening

Due to a CSX train derailment, only three Brunswick Line MARC trains will operate from Silver Spring Monday night, the Maryland Transit Administration said.

Fifteen train cars left the tracks in the derailment, spilling hazardous material near 9th and Rhode Island Avenue NE on Sunday.

Train 875 will depart at 4:39 p.m., Train 893 leaves at 5:34 p.m., and Train 881 will wait 30 minutes and leave at 7:04 p.m., the MTA said. The train will end in Brunswick, and Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority buses will take any remaining passengers from there to Duffield, Va., and Harpers Ferry and Martinsburg, W.Va.

The trains are likely to be crowded, so the transit administration advised passengers to consider taking alternate transportation, such as the MTA Commuter Bus, which operates from Hagerstown, Frederick and Monocacy to the Shady Grove Metro Station.

MARC passengers may show their tickets to D.C. Metro station managers for free admission, but any parking charges are not covered.

Passengers boarding at Germantown and other stops to the east may use the Ride-On bus service, which will also honor MARC weekly and monthly passes, to connect to the D.C. Metro.
