Maryland dog dies, owner says he was shot with a crossbow

HANCOCK, Md. (AP) — Investigators say someone apparently used a crossbow to kill a dog near the western Maryland community of Hancock.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday that deputies responded Saturday morning to call about an injured animal at a rural address about five miles east of Hancock.

Deputy First Class Carly Hose says family members told investigators they had let the dog named Bronx out at about 6:30 a.m. They say they found him on their front porch about 20 minutes later, bleeding profusely from a chest wound. He died before the family could get him to a veterinarian.

Hose says family members told investigators the dog had been shot with a crossbow. She says deputies found evidence that the dog was shot while standing on the porch.
