Police warn Pikesville residents of string of burglaries

Baltimore County police this week urged Pikesville residents to take precautions after a string of burglaries in the community.

The burglaries have occurred in an area bordered by Smith Avenue on the north and the Baltimore City line on the south, and between Park Heights Avenue on the west and Pimlico Road on the east, according to a message from precinct Capt. John McGann to residents. Since May 5, there have been seven burglaries between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. in that section, he said.

In most of the burglaries, someone entered through unlocked doors or windows, he said. In one, the suspect reached into the home and unlocked a door after removing insulation around a window-unit air conditioner.

Police urged residents to make sure their windows and doors are locked, use an alarm system if they have them, and keep their homes well lit. The precinct's Community Outreach Team provides free residential security surveys and can be reached at 410-887-6775.
