One person killed in car accident after driving wrong way on I-195

An Ellicott City man was killed in a car accident on Christmas Day after driving the wrong way on I-195 near Catonsvile.

John Ignatius Wellham, 90, of Ellicott City was pronounced dead at Saint Agnes Hospital after the 1990 Honda Civic he was driving struck a Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport taxi at about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, according to Maryland State Police.

Wellham, the sole occupant of the Honda, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of I-195, near I-95, when his car collided with the taxi, a 2014 Toyota Sienna.

The taxi driver, Song Kil Park, 74, was taken to another hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A taxi passenger was not injured.

Wellham's family could not be reached for comment Sunday evening.

The collision is under investigation. State police are asking witnesses to call 410-780-2700.
