Body of missing Baltimore County boater is recovered

Law enforcement and rescue agencies recovered the body of a Baltimore County boater Saturday night in the Gunpowder River after he went missing five days earlier, the Maryland Natural Resources Police said.

John Wilmer Conrad III, 40, of Sparks, had been traveling from Chestertown to a Middle River marina when he went missing on May 25. The Coast Guard anchored his boat and rescued a dog after his 25-foot sailboat was found the next morning by a Baltimore County Police aviation unit, motoring in a circle near North Point State Park.

Conrad's body was found at about 7 p.m. Saturday after heavy seas and gusty winds hampered search efforts. NRP investigators are trying to establish a timeline of Conrad's final hours. An autopsy is pending.
