Anyone who picked up cash that spilled from an armored truck in the Harbor Tunnel Wednesday has 48 hours to return it, police said Thursday.
All lanes of Interstate 895 in the tunnel were closed for eight hours Wednesday night and early Thursday morning after the Brinks truck's door malfunctioned at about 7:40 p.m., spilling money onto the roadway inside, Maryland Transportation Authority police said.
How much money spilled out of the truck is unclear. Police would not confirm the dollar amount "due to the ongoing investigation." Several drivers at the scene cooperated with police, but investigators believe not all the money was recovered, police said.
City prosecutors are allowing anyone who took cash off the street to return it by 5 p.m. Saturday or potentially face theft charges.
Anyone with information may call transportation authority police at 410-537-1208.
