Maryland State Police say a man accused of abducting his 3-year-old daughter is in custody and the girl is safe.
Cpl. Deborah Flory says George Henry Washington took off with his daughter, Laniya Shanyce Brame, after her mother brought the girl to meet him in a Clinton park on Sunday afternoon. Flory says an Amber Alert was issued because Washington made a threat against the child's life.
When Washington spotted the Amber Alert on Sunday evening, Flory says he left the girl with a relative. He was taken into custody before he could leave the neighborhood.
Flory says police have confirmed that the girl is safe. She says Washington is the girl's father but authorities do not believe he had custodial rights.
