Hate speech spray-painted on Montgomery County home on MLK Day

CHEVY CHASE, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police say they're investigating a hate crime after a racial epithet was found spray-painted on a garage door in Chevy Chase on Martin Luther King Day.

Police say a neighbor saw the slur, painted in big red letters, on the victim's garage door around 9:30 a.m. Monday. The slur is generally considered the most offensive term aimed at African Americans.

Police say the woman who lives in the home moved in just a little more than a week ago. Police say they haven't received any similar reports from other homeowners in the neighborhood.

The hate speech has since been painted over.
