The Maryland State Fire Marshal said a woman sustained burns to her hands and face as a result of an apartment fire Saturday in Westminster.
Officials said responders were called shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday to an apartment in the 300 block of Pleasanton Road in Westminster. Firefighters from the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department responded and controlled the blaze in about 10 minutes, according to the fire marshal.
Officials said they believe the fire was accidental, as a result of smoking while on home oxygen. The injured woman was transported to the John Hopkins Bayview Burn Center by State Police helicopter, the fire marshal said in a press release.
Damage was estimated at about $1,000. Officials said a smoke alarm was present and activated.
