Fire blazes in Northwest Baltimore

Baltimore city firefighters were battling a blaze Monday night at the 4100 block of West Belvedere Avenue near the Pimlico Race Course, fire officials said.

One person had suffered burns to his hands, as of 5 p.m. Monday, according to an emailed statement from Kevin Cartwright, a city fire spokesman.

Cartwright said that when firefighters pulled up to the two-story brick building, they found it "fully involved with fire on the first and second floors." The firefighters union sent out photos from the scene showing dark plumes of smoke billowing over city streets.

No firefighters had been injured.
