Two Kent Island men were found dead in the Chesapeake Bay Saturday morning after their small boat apparently was swamped with water, Natural Resources Police said.
Joshua Jon Rediger, 22, of Chester, and Robert Taylor Morelli, 23, of Stevensville, left in a 12-foot johnboat from the Cloverfields area of Kent Island at 7 p.m. Friday night to the Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge to spend the night, said Candy Thomson, a spokeswoman for the Natural Resources Police. They left the refuge at 6:20 a.m. to return to Cloverfields but were reported overdue at 10 a.m., Thomson said.
Natural Resources Police began to sweep the area and found the boat filled with water at 11 a.m. and the men's bodies a few minutes later, Thomson said.
The incident remains under investigation, but Thomson said the water was choppy Saturday morning. Both men were wearing lifejackets.
