Vice President Joe Biden, whose planned visit to Baltimore last month was postponed in advance of the first major snowstorm to strike the region this season, is now planning to come next Monday, the White House said.
Biden is scheduled to appear with Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski at an event to highlight funding to help police address a backlog of untested rape kits.
When Mikulski chaired the Senate appropriations committee, she argued for funding to begin clearing the hundreds of thousands of rape kits that were collecting dust in police storage areas across the country. The $1.1 trillion government spending bill signed by President Obama in December included $41 million to help police get more of those kits tested.
Biden and Mikulski, who is now the top Democrat on the Republican-controlled appropriations committee, were scheduled last month to speak at the Maryland State Police Forensic Science Laboratory in Pikesville. The White House has not provided details of next Monday's event.
