All lanes of the Baltimore beltway are closed in both directions after a tractor-trailer and another vehicle crashed and both caught fire on the inner loop just before the Charles Street exit Thursday morning, State Police said.
Both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Traffic was backed up significantly from the 6:20 a.m. crash, with vehicles squeezing past on the shoulder in both directions.
Fire Department vehicles, which set up in the outer loop lanes to fight the car blazes across the median, were responsible for the backup in that direction.
The cause of the crash is under investigation. It's unclear whether Thursday morning's rain played a factor.
