Bear repellent spray used on infant, 4 others in western Maryland home

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) — Police say a 7-month-old boy and four others are OK after they were sprayed with bear repellent in a western Maryland home.

Authorities were holding 28-year-old Daniel Woolard of Cumberland on $750,000 bond Monday. He's charged with assaulting five people with the pepper spray. Court records don't list a defense attorney.

Sgt. Korey Rounds says Woolard was visiting the home Sunday when he came to believe he was being set up for an attack by a man who was coming over.

Rounds says Woolard locked himself in a room and then came out and sprayed everyone there, including three women, a man and the baby. The sergeant says the man whom Woolard feared would harm him never showed up.
