A man with Maryland ties who has gone missing after his girlfriend was found dead in his Florida apartment is now being sought as a suspect in her murder, Florida law enforcement officials said Thursday.
On Wednesday morning, Jacksonville sheriff's deputies went to the man's home in the 3800 block of University Blvd. in Jacksonville to conduct a welfare check. Inside, they found a dead woman, identified as Cynthia Aviles. She had also lived at the residence, officials said.
Authorities are investigating her death as a homicide, but the sheriff's office did not disclose more details about how they believe she was killed.
The suspect, Norris Rashid Dail, 26, is missing. His four-year-old son was also missing and was the subject of an East Coast Amber Alert on Wednesday. But a few hours later, relatives in Maryland notified Florida law enforcement that the child was safe with them, sheriff's officials said.
Baltimore police said Wednesday night that they were contacted by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office about the Amber Alert, but they will not be releasing information to the public on the child's whereabouts "for the safety of the child and his family."
Deputies are still searching for Dail, who is believed to be driving a silver 2000 Mitsubishi Gallant with a Maryland Tag of "1BK9546." It has a Baltimore Ravens specialty tag and a Ravens sticker in the window.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
