Baltimore reports additional sewage overflow

Baltimore City officials on Thursday added 54,000 more gallons to the torrent of sewage-filled water that flowed downstream during Saturday's storm.

The additional overflow occurred at the intersection of West Saratoga and North Pine streets and was caused in part by a sewer collapse that led to a sinkhold on West Mulberry Street on July 4, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works said.

The city, which is under a federal order to repair its water and sewer system, previously reported that about 5.8 million gallons of sewage water overflowed over the weekend, primarily into the Jones Falls. Overflows were also reported in Baltimore County, Ellicott City and elsewhere.
