About 500 people were confined to their homes in Maryland City for about an hour and a half Saturday morning because a 45-foot trailer was leaking sulfuric acid, Anne Arundel County fire officials said.
Hazardous materials crews responded at about 9 a.m. to the incident in the 3500 block of Whiskey Bottom Road near Laurel, fire spokesman Russ Davies said via Twitter.
Nearby residents along Woodland Manor Drive, Woodland Hills Way, Claymont Street and Marcey Creek Road were ordered to shelter in place and turn off their air conditioning. The shelter-in-place order was lifted about 10:30 a.m.
No collision was reported, Davies said. The trailer was being delivered to Clean Harbors Environmental Services on Whiskey Bottom Road when a truck driver noticed the leak, he said.
A representative for Clean Harbors could not be immediately reached for comment.
