Man arrested after 15-minute chase from DUI checkpoint in Annapolis

A man was arrested Tuesday after driving through a St. Patrick's Day DUI checkpoint in Annapolis, leading police on a 15-minute chase and crashing into two vehicles, causing his car to burst into flames, police said.

Anne Arundel County police officers attempted to stop the car at about 8:30 p.m. at Bestgate Road and Route 50, police said. When the suspect continued to drive, officers followed him on Rt. 50 and Rt. 2 before he crashed near Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Rowe Boulevard, police said.

The drivers of the two other cars were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and the suspect was not seriously injured, police said.

Police said the suspect "appeared to be consistent with someone who was operating the vehicle under the influence." Police ask the public to report anyone they suspect is drunken driving.
