Work will begin July 26 to replace stop signs along Dixie Drive in Towson's Southland Hills neighborhood with speed bumps, Baltimore County Councilman David Marks stated in an email Monday.
According to plans provided by Marks, five speed bumps will be added to the community. In the meantime, all stop signs will be removed from Dixie Drive, except the one at Alabama Drive.
The signs were not leading drivers to lower their speeds in the community, according to Marks, a Republican who represents Towson. The project will cost $25,000.
"I would like to thank the Southland Hills Improvement Association and its president, Paul Saleh, for working on this initiative," Marks stated in the email. "Speeding has long been an issue here, and we hope that the speed bumps will make a difference in improving safety."
Marks noted that if other communities want to apply for traffic calming, they can do so through Baltimore County's website, www.baltimorecountymd.gov.
