The second game of the season for the Towson High girls lacrosse team may have provided an indication as to what the Generals could accomplish this season. They rallied from an 7-5 deficit to defeat visiting Bel Air, 10-9, Tuesday.

Towson Junior attacker Maggie Schneidereith, a John Hopkins University recruit, scored four goals and her sister, Lucy, a junior midfielder, added two goals.

Senior Morgan Hollenback and junior Bekah Riley led Bel Air with two goals apiece and Jacksonville University-bound junior goalie Sydney Matthews recorded 11 saves.

"It looked like an early season game," said Towson coach Jamie Giffuni, whose team routed Dundalk, 25-1, in its season opener Monday behind four goals from Maggie Schneidereith. "We are still working out the kinks, but we really hustled today. We were down, but we were never out. That shows how much they wanted this for each other and how hard they are able to work."

Bel Air led 7-5 at the intermission, closing the first half with four unanswered goals. Sophomore Anna Farley scored two goals during that stretch and Hollenback and Julia Henry each added one.

The Bobcats also led by two goals with 18:44 remaining in the second half. Emily McQuay sprinted from behind the goal, beat a defender and beat goalie Haley Hicklin with a low shot.

But Towson dominated play over the next 11 minutes to take the lead for good.

The Generals went on a 4-0 run to go ahead 10-8 with 6:48 left. Hope Lockwood scored on a low shot.

Bel Air drew to within 10-9 when Riley scored on a free position shot with 1:41 to go.

Towson controlled the ball before the Bobcats had one last chance to tie it in the closing seconds.

Farley took a feed from Riley and fired a low shot on goal that was stopped by Hicklin.

"Their goalie just came up with a great save," Bel Air coach Kristen Barry said. "You have to give her credit. She just made a big play."

“For our first game, I am extremely proud of our girls,” she added. “They played with fire and tough in the middle. I only see positives from here.”
