The Assistance Center of Towson Churches has received a $10,000 grant from the Marion I. & Henry J. Knott Foundation to increase emergency financial aid.
The grant will enable the assistance center to provide each client with $100 a year, up from $75, for emergencies including eviction, gas and electric turnoff, prescriptions, bus passes and gasoline.
That will allow the 30-year-old consortium of 48 churches to provide additional financial aid to at least 400 families, said Executive Director Cathy Burgess.
"We were honored and thankful that the foundation felt our work deserved this support," said Burgess, whose agency helps homeless and needy families in 21 Zip codes in central Baltimore County.
The Hampden-based Marion I. & Henry J. Knott Foundation, founded in 1977, is a Catholic family foundation that strives to strengthen the Archdiocese of Baltimore community.
