Rodgers Forge fifth grade celebrates with bowling party [Rodgers Forge]

The Rodgers Forge Elementary School (RFES) fifth graders celebrated the end of the school year with their usual tradition…a private BOWLING PARTY at Stoneleigh Lanes. Students enjoyed a brisk walk through the neighborhood to their destination, guided by parent chaperons Babett Corcoran, Cynthia Genus, Michele Dinsmore, and Amanda Kastner.

(Side note: a big huge Congratulations to Amanda Kastner who was recently awarded the RFES Parent Teacher Association's 2015 Volunteer of the Year Award.)

Upon arrival at Stoneleigh Lanes the students were greeted with numbers three and four of the most awesome components of bowling: cool shoes and delicious pizza. The actual bowling being number one and scorekeeping/math being number two (in my opinion). The afternoon also included jukebox music, dancing, disco lights and bowling in the dark. Plus, special appearances by Principal Missy Fanshaw and Vice Principal Michele Rowland…both of whom have the moves like Jagger from what I hear.

Turning to some sad news for a moment, many of you showed great support for Little Joe, the neighborhood beagle mix with a bucket list. Sadly, Little Joe passed away on June 10, and his family, Kathryne and Essam Shomali and their son, Ryan, are feeling the impact of his passing and their loss. Kathryne expressed her gratitude to the community for being so kind to LJ. As Anatole France put it so eloquently, "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened."

Case in point, the fabulous Fisher Girls (mom Jill, and daughters, Brinley, Arden and Karis) and their Partner in Good Things, Jamie Griffith, welcomed a new furry friend to their family. Heidi is a six-year-old German shepherd they adopted from the Maryland SPCA. Karis and Arden were so excited that I am reasonably certain they may have already called everyone in the neighborhood to tell them their fantastic news…so you might already in fact know about Heidi the Wonder Dog.

Have a fantastic 4th of July. Wear sunscreen. And as always, if you have something to shout from the rooftops, I would love to hear about it.
