Inaccurate portrayal of One Love Foundation's outreach [Letter]

I read the story about the One Love Foundation that appeared in The Baltimore Sun on Monday, Feb. 23 [and the Towson Times on Feb. 25] with great interest. This piece did not accurately portray the depth of the One Love Foundation's outreach to Baltimore area independent schools. The One Love Foundation presented its new film, "Escalation," to Maryvale Preparatory School students on Thursday, Feb. 19 as part of a larger workshop on relationship violence awareness and prevention.

But Maryvale, which has partnered with the One Love Foundation since its launch, is not alone. The foundation is making great strides with its outreach efforts to both girls' and boys' independent schools. As the mother of two boys who attend Boys' Latin, I was thrilled to see a similar presentation — "One Laker/One Love Day" — on that school's upcoming calendar.

As educators and parents, we can't do enough to reverse the statistic that one in three women experiences relationship violence. We must ensure that our young women and men are aware of relationship violence and are empowered to stop it.
