Dulaney's inability to contain two players led to an 11-8 loss to Churchill in the Class 4A-3A semifinals at Northeast High School.

Freshman midfielder Reed Moshyedi scored five goals and junior midfielder Austin LaBorwit won 15 of 22 faceoffs to power the Bulldogs of Montgomery High past the Lions Saturday night.

Chuchill advances to play Howard, an 11-4 winner over South River earlier in the day at the same site, in the state final either Tuesday or Wednesday at Stevenson University.

Dulaney (12-4) trailed 6-5 at halftime, but the Lions faced a three-goal deficit or more for much of the second half.

Dulaney played well in the fourth quarter after a two-hour delay because of thurnderstorms. The Bulldogs, however, responded with a combination of speed, nifty stickwork and good positioning to hold off the Lions.

"They are very disciplined," Dulaney coach Kyle Fiat said of Churchill. "It seemed like every time we scored a goal, they answered back with one of their own."

Senior attacker Cameron Carter, who led Dulaney to a 7-5 upset of Baltimore County champion and No. 13 Franklin in the South region District I final on Monday, had another strong performance, finishing with two goals and four assists.

Senior attacker James Bonnor added two goals for Dulaney.

But it was Moshyedi who had the strongest performance on Saturday.

Churchill coach Jeff Fritz said the 6-foot-5, 185-pound Moshyedi is being recruited by Johns Hopkins, Maryland and Princeton.

"He is a special player," Fritz said. "He is the smartest guy on the field. He knows exactly where to be and when to be there. He is the best freshman to play for us (in 22 years)."

Churchill didn't waste time taking a lead in the first quarter. Two minutes into play, Daniel DiBono picked up a loose ball and fired a blistering shot past senior goalie Burke McManus (11 saves).

Derek Altobello scored about a minute later on a low shot to give Churchill a 2-0 lead.

Dulaney answered with back-to-back goals Shane Grogan and James Bonnor.

With the 7:14 remaining in the second quarter, the Lions took their first lead of the game at 4-3 when Bonnor scored on a feed from Carter.

Dulaney also led 5-4 with 5:03 left in the second quarter on a Dominic Dachille goal.

But Churchill took the lead for good with four consecutive goals. The Bulldogs closed the second quarter with a pair and added two more to start the third quarter.

Moshyedi had three during that stretch.

After a two-hour delay, Dulnaney entered the final quarter trailing 9-6.

Carter scored Dulaney's lone goal in the period on a one-man advantage. The Lions had two other man advantages in the quarter.

"It seemed like it was rapid-fire shots coming from us for two or three minutes in the fourth quarter," said Fiat, whose team lost in the state semifinals to Howard last year. "We just weren't getting it on goal."
