The Dulaney High School boys needed everything to fall into place if they were going to win their second straight Baltimore County track championship. And they needed Milford Mill to stumble.
Instead, it was Milford Mill's Jordan Leon who stole the spotlight on May 9 at Pikesville High School, winning the individual 800 meters, 1,600 and 3,200 and anchoring the Millers' first-place 1,600-meter relay.
Those 40 points were key for the Millers, who won the meet with 116 points.
The Dulaney boys were second (83), Hereford (58), Catonsville (44) and Perry Hall (43) completed the top five.
There is no time to reflect for the Lions, who are preparing for the Class 4A North regional meet Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sherwood High School.
The only county title won by the Lions' boys came from the 3,200-meter relay squad that included Rex Ledesma, Benjamin Huang, Elijah Hawkins and Eric Walz.
Walz, Hawkins and Andrew King produced 18 points in the individual 3,200 and Adolfo Carvalho, Sean Smyth and King added 18 points in the 1,600 for the Lions.
The Dulaney girls also were strongest in the distance events.
Carly Sniffen, Kira Flemke, Luanne Zimmerman and Kristin Meek won the 3,200 relay. Flemke, Dorrie Gaeng and Meredith Jones produced 18 points in the 3,200 meters.
Kita Robinson finished second in the 400 and the 300 hurdles and Morgan McCamie was second in triple jump.
Robinson will run at West Virgina University next year.
