CVS to open at Towson Commons fall 2016

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz's office announced Wednesday that a CVS Pharmacy will open at Towson Commons this fall.

The pharmacy will fill a long-vacant spot at the corner of York Road and Chesapeake Avenue, in Towson Commons, according to the county's media release, and will be 9,000 square feet.

The new CVS is a part of continued business and residential growth in the downtown Towson area, according to Kamenetz's office.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday for Flats@703, a seven-story, 105-unit apartment building with parking coming to 703 Washington Ave., in downtown Towson.

Rent estimates aren't available for the apartment complex, according to Lisa Geiger, marketing manager for Federal Realty Investment Trust, the project's developer. The apartment complex is scheduled to be complete by summer 2017, she said.

In April, Federal Realty Investment Trust paid the first fee under a new open space law that increases the amount of money that developers must pay the county in lieu of creating open space. Originally the development would have paid $5,000 for failing to provide sufficient open space — instead, it will now pay $150,000.
