Baltimore County Public Schools is considering boundary change options for Cromwell Valley and Hampton elementary schools, and the public will have a chance to learn more about the choices available during a public information session scheduled for Sept. 28 from 7-8 p.m. at Loch Raven High School.

The proposed change is in response to the school system's goal, which it announced in 2015, to "re-establish a magnet program at Cromwell Valley Elementary School that welcomes students from a limited neighborhood attendance area via the standard enrollment process, as well as from across the region via the magnet application process."

A committee evaluating options for the revised attendance boundaries met Sept. 1 and Sept. 8, and will meet again Sept. 22, when it will select viable revised boundary options for the two Towson-area schools to present at the Sept. 28 public information session. The video and presentations from those earlier meetings, along with other related documents, are available on the school system's website at www.bcps.org/construction/central.

The committee includes a principal, teacher and two parents from both elementary schools, as well as consultants, Baltimore County Public Schools staff members and Aimee Freeman, chair of the Central Area Advisory Council, which advises the county Board of Education on issues that affect students, families, communities and schools in the north-central portion of the county.

At the meeting, committee members will discuss the boundary change process, review the data used to develop the revised boundary options, and take input from the public, county officials said.

In addition to the public information session, the school system will post the boundary options online and provide an online survey on those options from Sept. 28-Oct. 10.
