Five weeks didn't make a difference.

The Dulaney girls lacrosse team followed its nine-goal rout of Catonsville in mid-April by defeating the Comets, 14-7, Wednesday afternoon in the 4A-3A South Region Section I final at Honeygo Regional Park in Perry Hall.

The Lions advance to the state semifinals for the first time since 2009 and they'll face Howard Saturday at Gaithersburg High in Montgomery County.

"It's been a long time since we have been to the state semifinals," said Dulaney coach Kristi Korrow, whose team beat Howard, 14-12, in a tournament in late March. "Some of these girls have been on the varsity since their freshman year and it's been their goal to get there since they were freshman. They have been waiting and they finally did it. It's an amazing feeling."

Dulaney junior midfielder Kaitlyn Dabkowski was virtually unstoppable on draws in the first half against Catonsville Wednesday as she won six during that span.

She finished with eight overall as the Lions won 16 of 20.

Dabkowski, who has committed to the University of Florida, also had three assists.

"I think she was going for a record in draws," Korrow said. "I didn't challenge her, but it was pretty cool she had that many. The last time we played Catonsville she had eight."

Melanie Gandy (4 goals), Mackenzie Gandy (3) and Annie Sachs (3) were also among the hottest Lions Wednesday against a Catonsville defense that suffered numerous breakdowns.

Catonsville (9-7) couldn't slow down Dulaney's offense early as Comets fell behind, 6-1, in the first nine minutes.

The Lions (15-3) converted on six of their first eight shots and Sachs had two goals during that stretch.

"We just put ourselves in too big a hole," Catonsville coach Cantey Evans said.

It only got bigger.

Dulaney boosted its lead to 9-2 with about 10 minutes remaining in the first half on another Sachs goal when she beat goalie Amber Weedon (9 saves) on a low shot.

"One of our big goals today was to really come out strong and we did a nice job of that," Korrow said. "I told my team, 'Catonsville is a solid team and if we leave then hanging around, it could come back to bite us.'"

The Lions led 11-4 at halftime and they scored on its first two shots of the second half to push the margin to 13-4.
