There's one weekend left before the autumnal equinox, the astronomical start of the fall season, and in Baltimore County residents and visitors can get outside on the summer's last official Saturday for a free guided walk, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at six parks throughout the county.
During the event — dubbed "Walk in the Park" — naturalists and park rangers will offer free guided hikes at the following parks: Benjamin Banneker Historical Museum and Park, in Catonsville; Oregon Ridge Nature Center and Park, in Cockeysville; Lake Roland, near Towson; Cromwell Valley Park, in Parkville; Fort Howard Park, in Sparrows Point; and Marshy Point Nature Center, in Middle River.
The event will be held rain or shine.
The walks are designed to get people to use and experience the county's parks and embrace the natural world, said Barry Williams, the county parks and recreation director.
"We're trying to be very good stewards of the land," Williams added.
