Baltimore County is adding an extra incentive to adopt a dog or cat from the Baltimore County Animal Shelter by reducing the adoption fee by 50 percent.
From Sept. 1 to Sept.12, residents pay $25 to adopt a dog and $20 to adopt a cat, according to a release from the county.
Veterans receive the 50 percent discount year round on the fee, which is $50 for dogs and $40 for cats.
Residents can pay the fee with cash, check or credit card
The reduced fee is for a pet that has been spayed or neutered, had a complete veterinary exam and its first series of vaccinations.
The animal has also received a micro-chip with a lifetime registration and has its required county license.
To see the animals available for adoption, go to www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/health/petadoption, visit the shelter at 13800 Manor Road in Baldwin, or call 410-887-PAWS.
The shelter's new hours, which begin Sept. 1, are noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Lost pets can be picked up seven days a week
"People have been quite responsive to these holiday adoption discount programs, so we are offering discounted adoption fees before and after Labor Day weekend," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz in a statement.. "It's a great deal and a wonderful opportunity to bring some positive energy into your home."
