Maryland State Police are investigating the circumstances of a fatal pedestrian crash in Arbutus on Tuesday night.

Dalton had been pulled over in the right shoulder after his 1997 Ford Ranger became disabled, according to law enforcement.

“For unknown reasons,” police said, Marshall, who was the sole occupant of his vehicle, stepped from the shoulder into the roadway and was struck by the tractor-trailer, which was unable to stop.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured and remained at the scene, police said.

Dalton was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where he was declared deceased.

The accident resulted in the closure of I-95 south in the area of the crash until 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, while the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division conducted a post-crash inspection on the tractor-trailer.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
