Baltimore County Council OKs parking deal with ... Baltimore County

Without discussion, the Baltimore County Council approved a contract to rent parking spaces for public safety employees from another arm of the government.

The council voted 6-0 on Monday to approve the $272,000 in payments that will go to the Baltimore County Revenue Authority for 320 to 330 spaces in the Towson Square parking garage through the end of 2018. Councilman Todd Crandell, a Dundalk Republican, was absent.

The parking spaces are needed as the county builds a $8.3 million, 423-space parking garage at the Public Safety Building on E. Joppa Road in Towson.

The Baltimore County Revenue Authority is an independent county agency that operates parking garages, parking meters, public golf courses and the Reisterstown Sportsplex for the county.

The county is getting a deal on the Towson Square parking spaces. The going rate is $93 per space per month, according to the revenue authority's website. The county will pay $55 per space per month.
