Towson University cheerleaders disciplined for hazing told administrators Friday they would not make a second appeal after receiving a softened penalty, settling the matter, university officials said.
University officials added that they would not release an incident report detailing the hazing allegations. The state attorney general's office advised the report is protected under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act.
The cheerleading team, national champions in 2013, was charged Aug. 23 with thee violations of the university's code of conduct, including its hazing policy, after a university investigation that resulted in the team's suspension for the 2013-2014 school year.
The team appealed the decision Sept. 3, and a week later, the penalty was lessened to social probation and 650 hours of community service over the fall semester. Under social probation, the team can practice but cannot participate in any university or off-campus events, including athletic events, as a team.
