Luke Palmisano scored 13:27 into overtime to lift host Catonsville (9-2-1) to a 1-0 victory over Sparrows Point (7-3).
The game-winning play started with a free kick by Liam Llorin from 60 yards out.
Matt Rehder headed it towards the goal and Ethan Clark flicked it to Palmisano.
Clark had to swing his leg high in the air to get the flick.
"We missed a couple of good opportunities earlier in the game, so I called him [Clark] off because I knew I had a better angle on it," Palmisano said.
Catonsville coach Chris Hastings had seen enough missed chances.
"We had tons of the ball. We had crosses, we had post shots, we had corners, we had throw-ins," he said. "It just wasn't going down, but these guys aren't going to quit. We just needed one solid shot on frame and that's what we got and Luke buries that one,"
The Comets had a chance to win 4:50 into overtime, but Llorin's penalty kick went wide.
In the first half, Llorin and Comet goalie Eli Miller made two saves that kept the Pointers off the board.
After a throw-in, Brian Filipkowski's header was rejected by Miller, but the deflection came to Noah Dilba on the doorstep.
His shot was saved by Llorin on the back line.
Catonsville dominated in ball possession and quality chances.
Late in the first half they had shots five seconds apart from Jordan Llorin and Mackenzie Ali that hit the crossbar.
David Owens had a shot in the second half that hit the far post.
Sparrows Point goalie Quentin Hager (14 saves) also negated several chances.
"They had a good goalie," Hastings said. "We just needed something hard and on goal."
That's when Palmisano delivered.
"It was a really good game, both teams, they played really hard," Palmisano said. "They are a solid team."
Catonsville's defense of Liam and Jordan Llorin, Rehder and Favian Campbell was also solid.
Ali, Ethan Clark, Jaylen Clark, Dale Boring and Owens controlled the midfield and won a majority of the 50/50 balls.
Midfielder Ethan Alioto and defender Rehder were also threats with several long throw ins and Drew Meyers kept the pressure on the Sparrows Point defense with spirited runs and nifty footwork, but that defense held tough for 80 minutes.
"I thought today the backs played real tough," Sparrows Point coach George Bischoff said. "They marked real well."
That defense included Tyler Woods, Ben Hanke, Givoni Herring and Matt Gilley.
The Pointers nearly took a 1-0 lead with 28:20 left in regulation, but a rocket from outside by Logan Funk was saved by the left leg of Miller.
With 4:20 left in regulation Miller saved a point blank shot by Dilba.
"Guys up top had a couple opportunities, one on ones and we hit their goalkeeper three times," Bischoff said.
Hastings knows the feeling.
"We were getting it in and we were getting chances, we just need to capitalize on some of our chances," Hastings said.
