Catonsville High senior Allison Campbell left a memorable mark in her final field hockey game at Comet Park.

Classmate Brittany Stevens added three assists and senior Ashley Bates had a goal for the Comets.

Future talent also surfaced as freshman Caitlin Baeck scored a goal and notched an assist.

But, most of the night belonged to the seniors, that also included starting forward Ashlyn Cunningham, starting defenders Madison Jones and Molly Miller and reserves Stefana Avara and Meghan Herilla.

Bates and Stevens know each other's game inside and out.

"That right side has had four years to be a finely-tuned machine," Catonsville coach Carrie Mckenna-Wilson said. "Brittany and Ashley Bates have been playing for four years and Ashlyn Cunningham has come in and they make a perfect triangle."

Catonsville had a 19-6 advantage in penalty corners, but it wasn't until 20:32 left in the first half that they scored the first goal of the game.

Stevens' insert led to a hard shot by Bates that deflected off a Perry Hall defender into the goal.

Perry Hall responded with a spirited challenge that led to a penalty corner and scoring chance.

An insert by Lyndsay Klein lwas followed by a shot by Jordan Brooks that was stopped by the Comets and they cleared a rebound shot attempt.

Catonsville's defense was anchored with Jones, Miller and junior Zoey Waddell in front of goalie Madison Manalanson.

Catonsville continued to get penalty corners and they converted when Stevens fed Campbell and she scored the first of her four salvos with 5:38 left in the half.

"My favorite goal definitely was my first goal which was scored off the penalty corner," Campbell said. "Brittany inserted it to me and I just cracked it. It went right against the board."

Less than a minute later, the Comets scored their only goal that wasn't off a penalty corner.

Stevens blocked a Perry Hall free hit along the sideline and slipped a short pass to Cunningham. Cunningham crossed it to Baeck, who assisted Campbell for a 3-0 lead.

"Our teamwork is really great," Campbell said. "In practice, we really try to work on crossing it to one another because it's easier than just getting it in the back of the goal, so once we work on getting down hard crosses from the opposite side, it flows."

Although she didn't score, Catonsville sophomore midfielder Kelsey Jones was key to the transition game.

Perry Hall defenders Hannah Martin and Jenna Shields had several blocks, but they couldn't stop the Comet attack that kept on coming in the second half.

Baeck made it 4-0 after Stevens passed to Campbell on another penalty corner.

Campbell's shot was saved by Gator goalie Nicki Bennett and Baeck deposited the rebound.

Campbell's goal for a hat trick started with another penalty corner.

Stevens fed Cunningham, who passed back to Stevens and she found Campbell for the score.

Mckenna-Wilson was glad to see the Comets scored off four penalty corners.

"Finally, we had 10 at the beginning where we did not score," McKenna-Wilson said. "Once it snowballed, it snowballed."

Perry Hall coach Isaac Weinstein knew the frequent penalty corners would eventually haunt his team.

"We can't give up 19 corners and not expect to lose the game," Weinstein said.

Campbell's final goal came after a cross by Stevens was deflected to Campbell with 45 seconds left in the game.

"They took advantage of a lot of the mistakes we made," Weinstein said. "Catonsville is a very good team. They have really good players and we didn't play our best game tonight."

Campbell, the Comets' leading scorer certainly played one of her best games, but she wasn't overly ecstatic.

"It's a little sentimental," Campbell said. "It's a little bittersweet since we finished off with such a great win, but I'm sad that I will never play on this field again as a Comet."

Catonsville will play at Dulaney High on Oct. 31 in the sectional finals.

Mckenna-Wilson expects to see a quality effort from everybody.

"Sometimes the best game you've ever played in your life doesn't necessarily have to be the one you win, but you've got to go out and play your best game no matter what happens, and that's what we are going to do on Monday, play the best game we've ever played."
