Oak Crest retirement facility takes to YouTube to cheer on Ravens

The residents and employees of Oak Crest retirement community in Parkville wanted to do their part to cheer on the Ravens before the Baltimore team plays in the Super Bowl this Sunday.

What would be the best way to get their message out? YouTube, of course.

The 90-second video called "Super Dreams" released Wednesday, captures the thrill of being introduced before the big game through the eyes of Gene Miller, a 71-year old resident of Oak Crest.  Miller roots for the Ravens with his fellow residents and then shows off his dance steps in the big moment, ala a certain future Hall of Famer middle linebacker.

"I've been a Baltimore sports fan since 1965, and this year's Ravens team has been as exciting as any I've seen," Miller was quoted as saying in an email release sent on Jan. 29. "From Purple Fridays to game-day viewing, Oak Crest residents have enjoyed cheering on the team."

The release also stated that Miller has participated in "Dancing with the Oak Crest Stars" and a Thriller video in the last two years. "Retirement is about possibilities and trying new things," stated Mr. Miller.  "We're having fun."

The video was directed by Josh Runkles, manager of WOCV, the in-house television station at Oak Crest, an Erickson Living retirement community, along with Runkles' team. Donned in their Ravens gear and colors, 60 residents and employees took part in the two-day filming at the community's Acorn Pub and Erickson Conference Center.

"For fans of all ages, sports are all about dreams: taking the field, making the play and winning the big game," Ernie Rehmeyer, a resident who appeared in the video, said.  "It's been fun to see everyone around town cheer on the Ravens to the Super Bowl. They'll get the job done in New Orleans!"
