Thinking about adopting a pet at the Baltimore County animal shelter? If you do it on Memorial Day, it will cost you half as much as usual.
In honor of Memorial Day, the Baltimore County Animal Services shelter is offering 50 percent off its adoption and spay/neuter fees from May 17-25.
Moreover, the fees will be waived for county residents who are also United States military veterans, according to a county press release.
For non-veterans, adoption fees during the promotion will be $25 for cats and $32.50 for dogs during the promotion. Those costs will include all spaying or neutering all adopted animals, vaccinating them against rabies and other diseases, licensing them and micro-chipping them for identification purposes. The same fees will be in effect for those who make an appointment to have a current cat or dog spayed or neutered at the county animal shelter during those dates.
"We want to encourage everyone to adopt from our shelter and hope the reduced fees spur them to do so," Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz says in the press release. "We have many animals that are waiting patiently for homes; now is a great time to adopt one of them."
The Baltimore County Council passed a measure last year, at Kamenetz's request, to waive animal adoption and spay/neuter fees during the Veterans Day and Memorial Day holidays for residents who are veterans. Those residents will receive half-off discounts on adoption and spay/neuter services during the rest of the year, according to the press release.
The shelter is located at 13800 Manor Road in Baldwin. Adoption hours are from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. In honor of the holiday, the shelter will be open Monday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
