Catonsville Times and Arbutus Times: 1st District Councilman deserves return

Councilman Tom Quirk has shown he is a quick study when it comes to representing residents of Arbutus, Catonsville, Lansdowne, Relay, Winters Lane and the other distinctive communities in the First District.

In his first term on the council, Quirk's emphasis on fiscal responsibility in county government, his desire to ensure that the area's good schools maintain that level of excellence and to help lagging schools to get better, and his support for the environment, are important to most residents.

The Democrat has also set an example in a field often marked by partisan gridlock by working with Republicans, as well as Democrats, on the council.

His opponent, Republican Albert Nalley, ran unsuccessfully for the House of Delegates four years ago and we appreciate his desire to be a public servant.

But we see no reason to replace Quirk. He has done well and deserves another four years.
