New in our area -- Therapy Pets Unlimited [Perry Hall/Kingsville]

Therapy Pets Unlimited (TPU) is a nonprofit organization based in Perry Hall. Founded in March, the new group eases the sting of some old, familiar pains such as grief, stress and loneliness through friendly pet visits.

One of the founders of TPU, Perry Hall resident Vicki Rummel, has an excellent reputation as a pet therapy organizer and volunteer. Vicki worked for years in this field prior to TPU and, although the group is based locally, they accept volunteers nationwide.

Different facilities actually sign up for therapy pet visits and a match is made with a volunteer in the area. Some current facilities that utilize this service are Brightview Independent and Assisted Living in Perry Hall, Manor Care Rossville on Ridge Rd and several libraries, to name a few.

Although therapy pets are usually thought to be dogs, TPU's therapy animals include not only canines, but cats and bunnies as well! If you have a friendly, well-behaved pet, no matter the species, you might want to consider volunteering with your pet as well.

Information can be found on the TPU website, http://www.therapypetsunlimited.org.

TPU is hosting a fundraising bowling event, "Bark, Rock and Roll," with proceeds going to benefit Therapy Pets Unlimited and one other nonprofit, Adopt a Homeless Animal Rescue.

Welcoming everyone to join in the bowling fun, Vicki commented, "I look forward to seeing a good turnout at our bowling event to benefit these two wonderful organizations that help animals and people." The event takes place at Stoneleigh Lanes, 6703 York Road, on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

In addition to the traditional bowling fun, there will be "cosmic" bowling, karaoke, door prizes, silent auction, a pizza-wraps-and-nachos bar and specialty drinks. Tickets are available to purchase online at tickets.therapypetsunlimited.org and cost $30 each or $25 per person when signing up in a team of four or more. If you choose not to order online, you can still purchase tickets by calling Vicki at 443-750-1541.

Thanks go to Perry Hall's County Councilman David Marks for introducing the resolution at the Oct. 6 County Council meeting to officially designate the land south of the Perry Hall Library as Angel Park. As it passed unanimously, Angel Park is one step closer to becoming a reality. The playground for all children will hopefully be completed next year.
