The State Highway Administration is scheduled to implement overnight closures on York Road next week in anticipation of construction work on a student housing project in Towson.
The closures include one block of York Road (Route 45) between Towsontown Boulevard and Chesapeake Avenue to accommodate the housing project, according to the SHA.
Beginning Monday, crews will close the 300 block of York Road nightly at 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. The work is expected to be complete by next Friday, weather permitting.
Additional closures are expected the following week under the same schedule for work on the frontage of the new Towson Row student housing development.
During the closures, motorists traveling within downtown Towson will be redirected to a detour route that includes Chesapeake Avenue, Virginia Avenue, Towsontown Blvd. and Washington Avenue.
Other motorists traveling between south of Towson University to Interstate 695 can use the Towson Bypass (W. Burke Avenue/Bosley Avenue) west of Towson to avoid the local detour area.
Drivers should be aware of reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes, according to the SHA.
