At 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday, police received a call that a pedestrian had been hit by a car, Hardgrove said.

Catonsville High School principal William Heiser sent a note to parents and guardians later in the day to let them know that the pedestrian was a student at the school.

The teen was walking east on the south side of Blakeney Road when she stepped off the sidewalk onto Shady Nook Avenue and was hit by a 2001 Chevy Malibu traveling southbound on Shady Nook, Hardgrove said.

Police determined the cause of the crash was pedestrian error, said county police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter.
