Baltimore County community groups are set to take part in National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 2, an annual event to promote community policing.

Since its inception in 1984, National Night Out — held on the first Tuesday in August — has grown from 2.7 million Americans participating in 400 communities in 23 states to more than 37 million people and 15,000 communities from all 50 states, United States territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world.

From motorcades to pizza parties and community gatherings, a range of activities are taking place throughout Catonsville, Arbutus, Towson and Cockeysville. People will turn on their front porch lights and join together to say "no" to crime in their neighborhoods.
